Paddy procurement for Kharif 2020-21 has gained good momentum in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat and Kerala with purchase of over 144.59 lakh tonnes of paddy up to October 24, an increase of 23 % over last year procurement of 117.55 lakh tonnes. Out of the total purchase of 144.59 lakh tonnes, Punjab alone has contributed 95.20 lakh tonnes, which is 65.84 % of total procurement.
Approval was accorded for procurement of 45.1 lakh tonnes of pulse and oilseeds of Kharif marketing season for Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. The sanction for procurement of 1.23 lakh tonnes of copra for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala was also given. For other States/UTs, approval will also be accorded on receipt of proposals for the procurement of pulses, oilseeds and copra, according to a government release.
Similarly, 894.54 tonnes of moong and urad from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Haryana, 5,089 tonnes of copra from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been procured. A total of 3,53,252 cotton bales, valuing Rs.104790.17 lakh, have been procured as on October 24.
