Gem and jewellery gross exports fell sharply in April to September period to Rs.63,339.58 crore, down by 39.27%, when compared to the same period in the last fiscal. In September alone, gross exports stood at Rs 18,143.87 crore, 24.89 per cent down, when compared to September 2019, according to data from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India (GJEPC).
Total gold jewellery exports in April-September 2020 stood at Rs 9,926.57 crore, 64.48 per cent less than the total exports in the same period, last year. Exports of cut and polished diamonds in Gujarat during the same period was less than 32.31 per cent in 2019.
In September, exports of cut and polished diamonds registered a 17.15 per cent dip when compared to the same month in 2019. However, silver jewellery exports in September were around Rs 1,701.67 crore, registering an increase of 100.68 per cent during the same period last year, the data revealed.
