The Finance Ministry said that the government will consider all options and take a decision on the further course of action, including legal remedies, before appropriate fora in the Vodafone case.

It has just been informed that the award in the arbitration case invoked by Vodafone International Holding BV against Government of India has been passed.  The government will be studying the award and all its aspects carefully in consultation with its counsels, according to an official statement.

Vodafone Group Plc said on Friday that it had won an international arbitration case against the Indian government involving a US $ two billion tax claim. An international arbitration tribunal in The Hague had ruled that India’s imposition of a tax liability on Vodafone, as well as interest and penalties, were in breach of an investment treaty between India and The Netherlands.
