A total of 78 new routes have been identified and approved under 1st phase of UDAN 4.0, said Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, in Rajya Sabha here on Monday.
Air connectivity will fulfill the aspirations of people of the region and provide impetus to the local economy. Lack of infrastructure at civil airports due to non-availability of land, delay related to compliance of the regulations by the airport operators, lack of road connectivity to the airports, non-completion of the process involved in obtaining Scheduled Commuter Operators Permit by the Airlines and delay in commencement of civil work of airports were some of the reasons for delay commencement of new routes he pointed out.
Government of India has also sanctioned Rs.48 crores for Jagdalpur, Rs. 27 crores for Ambikapur and Rs. 33 crores for Bilaspur under UDAN scheme for up-gradation and development of three Airports in Chhattisgarh, said Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State for Civil Aviation.
Puri further informed that the Airports Authority of India has planned for the investment of about Rs.900 crores to develop and expand Raipur airport which includes expansion of the terminal building. Recently, the Ministry of Civil Aviation had approved the bid of Alliance Air for the operation of RCS flight from Bilaspur to Bhopal under UDAN 4.0 which is expected to commence shortly.
