HIL (India) Limited has supplied 20.60 tonnes of DDT to South Africa for its malaria control program.
The DDT supplied by India will be utilised by the three provinces adjoining Mozambique which are highly affected by malaria.
Of the total 228 million malaria cases in the world in 2018, 93 per cent were reported from the African region. The World Health Organisation has recommended DDT as one of the efficient IRS chemicals to curb malaria mosquito menace.
The company has planned to supply 128 tonnes to Zimbabwe and 113 tonnes to Zambia this fiscal.
It had exported 25 tonnes of Malathion to Iran to control locusts and 32 tonnes of agrochemical-fungicide to Latin America. HIL is one of the major DDT manufacturers in the world.
