The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has set up a “KVIC-CFTI Footwear Training-cum-Production Centre, a first-of-its-kind, in Delhi with the technical knowhow of Central Footwear Training Institute (CFTI), Agra, in order to train marginalised leather artisans.
Inaugurating the centre, KVIC Chairman V. K. Saxena said that it would provide a comprehensive two-month training programme to leather artisans for making high-quality footwear. It would also provide logistical support to trained artisans in starting their own shoe-making business after successful completion of training. A tool kit worth Rs 5000 would be given to each trainee.
The centre is fully equipped with advanced tool kits and advanced machinery. Initially, the training programme was designed for a batch of 40 leather artisans but keeping in view the social distancing norms in wake of Corona outbreak, the number has been reduced to 20 artisans per batch. The KVIC is setting up a similar centre in Varanasi also.
